Part 2: The Excel Sheet

Part 2: The Excel Sheet

It’s widely known that New York City is one of the most expensive cities in the world. For an unpaid intern, this fact is even more prominent.

Quick run-down of an average month in bills:

Rent – $1500.00
Wifi/Amenities – $200.00
Subway Pass – $115.00
Phone Bill- $70.00
Groceries – $200.00

Total: $2085

Okay, so 2grand IF you’re lucky. That’s not including any nights on the town, coffees, books, DRINKS. No wine in there. Insane.

So, that being said, I had to find a loophole, which (no judgment) was dating.

Here’s where said excel sheet fits in. I was at one point dating (NOT having sex with, but going on dates with…) seven different men. That is a lot of meaningless jabber, questions about the past, discussions about places you/they want to travel, etc. Now, most of these men didn’t make it to a third date BUT in order to remember their name, what they do for a living and some of what we discussed (and to hopefully not sound like a broken record) I had to put them in an excel spreadsheet. This was also a good way of determining what should be discussed at the next date.

At work, one of my tasks was to create briefing documents for my clients. This is like a mini cheat sheet they read before an interview with everything they’ll need to know about the interviewer. Everything from where they worked in the past, what they write about, how many followers they had on social media, what topics to focus on and which ones to stay away. So, I treated my dating life no differently. Before each date I would review the guys excel profile and brush up on what I needed to know about him.

This sounds so much worse than it felt at the time but hey, a girls gotta eat! Plus, I had no reservations about finding a boyfriend should the right prince charming stroll on by, but none of the men really stood out all that much… until I was set up with Mr. NYC, of course.
